Bringing Water close to the Communities

Everyday in rural communities and poor urban centers throughout Uganda, hundreds of people suffer from lack of access to clean , safe water. Women and girls especially bear the burden of walking miles at a time to collect water from streams and ponds - full of water-borne diseases that is making them and their families sick. Illness from drinking dirty water and the time lost fetching it robs entire communities of their futures. Hope is put on hold in over half of the developing world's primary schools without access to water and sanitation.
Water is a whole family concern. Finding water is a daily challenge for young boys, mothers and daughters. Providing reliable and safe water source unlocks potential by lifting this burden and returning time for study and income generating work.
Every good thing made possible by access to safe water depends on it being available everyday year after year. Sadly though, the promise of safe water has been broken many times in the past.
Providing access to clean, safe water helps capable and determined people realize the hope they have for their own futures.
Village Concern Uganda works with local communities to provide access to safe water at schools and where children live.

Environment Conservation

Village Concern Uganda in partnership with Busoga Coalition Against Poverty have implemented the Tree Planting Project in selected Schools in Bugweri District. Since our inception, Village Concern Uganda has  distributed over 6000 tree seedlings with the main focus on mitigating effects of climate change in the District. Our pride is a favourable environment for community livelihood realised within the selected communities.

Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET)

Young people represent more than 70 per cent of the Uganda's total population and account for the largest proportion of the total labour force. The country's population is becoming more youthful, with youth as a proportion of the total population projected to increase due to the high fertility rates. However, this growing population of youth is happening in the midst of high school dropout rates, unemployment and exclusion of the young people/youth from productive economic and social life.

Village Concern Uganda therefore promotes Technical Vocational Education Training in profitable trades as a means to "help bring young people back" when the basic education system has failed (the notion of giving a second chance), or as a top-up to the basic knowledge base young people will need, to help prepare them for the immediate needs of the world of work. This type of vocational training provides young people with a maximum set of durable achievements in terms of literacy, basic knowledge and lifelong learning skills.

Basic Education, Early Childhood Care & Development

Parents are empowered to understand the importance of and value of child education especially of girl-child which is reflected in the way parents especially women have supported their children's education. 94.6% of parents in Village Concern Uganda supported areas are able to provide all the basic items required for the education of children such as books and pens, lunch and uniforms. This has contributed has increased enrolment and retention of children in pre primary and primary education in Village Concern Uganda supported communities.

Animal Welfare Program

Village Concern Uganda runs a feeding program for Homeless pets and believes in the healing power of companion pets and of the human/animal bond which is very important in the lives of many homeless. In doing so, they find solace, protection and companionship through their pets. They care for their pets on limited resources so they themselves have less. Our task is to feed and provide basic emergency veterinary care to the pets and those relieve the anguish and anxiety of the homeless who cannot provide for their pets.
